High School (9th-12th)

High School Academic Priorities

High School academic courses at Academy31 are strategically designed to:

  • Expand our students’ capacity to discern truth and skillfully apply wisdom to a broad range of subject matters, ideas, and circumstances
  • Identify, develop, and refine each student’s unique gifts and abilities through relevant, project-based, interdisciplinary learning
  • Prepare our students for college and career choices through an individually customized program of assessment, exploration, and advising
  • Instill a sense of ownership of each student’s own educational experience by increasing opportunities for independent study with appropriate monitoring and supports
  • Enrich our students’ awareness and understanding of all academic disciplines, including how to engage in them most effectively for God’s kingdom and glory

High School Course Levels

Standard- Our standard courses are designed to meet the minimum requirements for graduating high school at Academy31 in accordance with state standards and our school’s Targeted Learning Model. Course credits will be earned on a 4.0 GPA scale.

Honors- Students who have demonstrated the ability to handle a higher level of academic challenge in a given subject and who desire to commit to a correspondingly increased workload will be eligible (with parent permission) to register for an Honors track in most high school courses at Academy31 beginning in 2026-27. Honors courses will prepare students for college-level coursework, either as part of subsequent Advanced Placement courses in 11th-12th grades and/or at the college of their choice following graduation. Course credits will be earned on a 4.5 GPA scale to account for the increased rigor.

Advanced Placement (AP)*- Students who have excelled in Honors-level courses will be eligible (with parent permission) to register for Advanced Placement (AP) courses in select subject areas in 11th-12th grades which will provide an opportunity to earn college credit while fulfilling credit requirements for high school graduation. AP courses will be selected based on their alignment with our Targeted Learning Model’s emphasis on teaching our students to think critically and biblically, as well as their usefulness in preparing our students for the broadest range of college and career paths. These courses will be offered year to year based on student interest, and if there is insufficient interest in a given AP course in a particular year, an option may exist for supervised online study within a class period at school. Course credits will be earned on a 5.0 GPA scale to account for the college-level rigor.

*While we have not ruled out the potential for a dual enrollment alternative and will continue looking into those options over the next year, we are currently favoring the standardized accountability and broader application of AP courses.

Other- When a student requires a higher level of challenge in a given subject than that which is available for their grade level (i.e Math, Foreign Language), and/or they desire to pursue a specific interest beyond the scope of Academy31’s course offerings in that subject area, they may consult with the Academic Advisor to determine whether an alternative course of study (i.e. supervised online or guided independent study) can be arranged within the framework of their class schedule.
